Navy, the way to go?

Well im 18 and currently in school studying for my GED. Life in this little town SUCKS and i cant find a job anywhere, there isnt really anything to do but party smoke weed and get in trouble lol. I still stay with my parents and i just want to move on and start my life. I have been reading about the Navy and im thinking about joining when i get my GED to get the hell out of here and see the world. I was thinking of doing 4 years and being a cook and since u dont really need to buy anything like food and housing i figure i'll have a nice little stack when i get back from my 1st tour even if you only make like 1k a month. I know they work your *** off and u cant smoke reffer and all that but i need that in my life right now and i think it will be a good experience. But if any Navy vets would like to tell me about BCT and how life is on the ship and all that i would apreciate it.Navy, the way to go?
Military Code of Conduct

US Marine Corps Rules:

1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.

2. Decide to be aggressive enough, quickly enough.

3. Have a plan.

4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work.

5. Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a ';.4 or 9';

7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.

8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral %26amp; diagonal preferred.)

9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.

10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.

11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.

12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.

13. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating your intention to shoot.

14. Come home a conquering warrior.

Navy SEALS Rules:

1. Look very cool in sunglasses.

2. Kill every living thing within view.

3. Adjust Speedo.

4. Check hair in mirror.

5. Come home a conquering warrior.

2. Locate individuals requiring killing.

3. Request permission via radio from ';Higher'; to perform killing.

4. Curse bitterly when mission is aborted.

5. Walk out 50 miles wearing a 75 pound rucksack while starving.

6. Come home a conquering warrior.

US Army Rules:

1. Select a new beret to wear.

2. Sew patches on right shoulder.

3. Change the color of beret you decide to wear.

4. Come home a conquering warrior.

US Air Force Rules:

1. Have a cocktail.

2. Adjust temperature on air-conditioner.

Not all military outfits will accept GEDs. You better check first to make sure they will take that. if not somehow finish your school with a diploma. Sounds like your heading in the right direction with your life.. Good luck..
If you want to see the world, the Navy is the way to go.

Stay off drugs while you're trying to get in, and during your enlistment term - it's better for you.

I understand about wanting to get the heck out of a little town - that's exactly how I feel.

Anyway, go for it!
I heard they were offering enlisters 30,000 dollars right up front to enlist and with your lack of discipline %26amp; direction, it sounds like something you need. I'd check out all the services to see what they are offering and start to plan your future which you obviously didn't do before. Broaden your horizons, look for a brighter future like going to college and getting serious about your academics and choices and your future. Maybe you like the service and make it a career, maybe the service sees something in you that you don't and you become a computer tech or a chef. Remember, what ever you do if you love doing it, you put everything into it and you'll get everything out of it %26amp; more. Who wants to be a cook when they can be a chef?
If you're still in school as you say, then why are you studying for your GED. Stay with school and get your Diploma.

No matter what people tell you, a GED is NOT the same as a diploma. only about 10-20% of recruits can be GED's the other 80-90% must have Diplomas. Also with a GED you must score a LOT higher over the minimums on the ASVAB to pass.
